Fordingbridge Turks (www.fordingbridgeturks.com)

The Turks and Fordingbridge Town youth football clubs merged in season 2014/2015. The Town Club was founded in 1992 with just 22 children. It has grown to nearly ten times this number today. The Turks are one of the oldest football clubs in the country, being founded in 1868 and have a unique status having played football in every season since their formation 147 years ago.

The Turks are probably the oldest club playing in the south of England with only seven older football league clubs all playing in the north of England. The club was the early home of a former player who went on to play for Southampton, Everton and England. In the latter part of the 19th century they won the prestigious Basingstoke Cup for three consecutive years and were allowed to retain the valuable trophy which is now kept in the museum at the regional offices of the FA at Basingstoke.

In April 1993 to celebrate their 125th anniversary the Turks hosted Southampton Premiership team at the Recreation ground in a prestigious match watched by around 2,000 people housed in temporary stands. At the time Southampton had just competed in the very first season of the newly formed Premiership and they brought their whole first team squad for the match. In 2018 the Turks celebrate their 150th Anniversary and plan replicating this prestigious friendly from 25 years ago against premier league club Southampton with another high profile match being played at the Recreation Ground.

The club run two senior sides who play in the Bournemouth and District leagues, a Development Squad and in the youth section have teams playing in the Testway leagues for U18, U16 and every level down to U8. There are girl players in the younger age groups and a mixed age girls team playing friendlies this season. For 2015/16 the Turks expect to have over one hundred and fifty 7 to U15 players. Also for 2015/16 it is planned for a ladies team to be playing league football on Sunday afternoons. The senior teams have aspirations to play in the Hampshire or Wessex league. In the summer months many of the age groups practice in the evenings at the Recreation Ground.
